The Rain

It’s going to rain soon”, she told me looking through the sunroof of our car. I had had a rough day and was very tired to notice the cloud forming in the night sky above us. But, it was actually a very pleasant weather, y’know the weather before rain, the soothing smell of the soil, the sky changing its colors and a gentle breeze blowing, a perfect weather for sitting in your balcony, enjoying a snack. I looked at her and said, “Let’s get some Ramen and drinks on our way and we’ll eat it over some Netflix before bed.” The mention of Ramen brightened her face. Over the years, I have learnt that good food is more than enough to lighten her mood, yes, you guessed it right, the movie was bad. I looked at her while she opened her hair and put the band back on again, y’know one of those entrancing things women do with their hair. Watching a movie with her on a cozy rainy night and eating ramen, I mean, if that isn’t the best thing ever, I don’t know what is.

I parked the car next to the Spencer and we walked in hand in hand on our quest for Ramen. There weren’t many people at the store and they were just closing up. She left me and ran towards the food section to get her favorite Ramen. At any other occasion, I’d have followed her too, but the post work fatigue on a weekday and the boring movie was too much of a drag for me. I asked the receptionist the directions for the washroom and went on my own little quest.

The lavatory was quite sanitized, much to my awe. Being a prime example of my sex, and much like any other guy, when I see a mirror, I comb my hair, so I went along and pulled a mini comb out of my pocket. Just when I was done, I peeked out of the small window that the lavatory had to check in on my car. It’s a sweet Mustang, we saved up for a few months and bought it together, we’re both very proud of it. I started walking towards the exit door and just then I felt my hands and legs froze. I felt cold tentacles wrapping around my whole body. My entire body started to go numb and I felt I was having a panic attack. But, no, it was something more than that. I started feeling the presence of something unearthly next to me. I wanted to run, I couldn’t. I wanted to shout, I couldn’t. I started feeling life slowly getting away from me. I didn’t want to give in. All those years of struggle and depression had gone away and I finally had the most stable job and the love of my life. My entire life started flashing before my eyes. I tried to look back on what was holding me, all I saw was a shadow with big tentacles. I turned towards the lavatory window and saw her walking towards the car, I felt a sigh of relief that she will notice and come here searching for me.

Few seconds later, a shadow followed her, no not a shadow, a person. It was me. No, it looked like me. It stared back at the lavatory window and passed a grin. They got inside the car and drove away. It’s been quite some time now, and I’m still waiting. It has already started raining outside and I can’t feel my body anymore.
